My interest in in-betweenness was sparked when I was invited to participate in an artistic project for the 60th Venice Biennale by Valeria Montti Colque, who is the main artist for the Chilean Pavilion. The project is intercultural because there are different artists involved with different backgrounds. The artistic project has an intercultural idea and design.
This led to me choosing in my degree project to investigate whether and how artists and visual arts teachers work interculturally.
In an increasingly internationalised and globalised world, an intercultural approach is of utmost importance. Understanding and respecting the backgrounds and cultural differences of our fellow human beings is crucial to creating an inclusive environment both in the schools and in society at large.
In this art film, I take you to Tornedalen, where stark contrasts are created between environments and characters. This journey through different geographic and cultural landscapes strives for a deeper understanding of in-betweenness.
Through this artistic process, I want to capture a feeling of being in limbo, stuck between several places, where stories and experiences are interconnected.
