Ripples: The Interplay of Surfaces and Perception
Chi Jung Lu
Exhibition

The project explores reflections within the relationship between surfaces, movements, and spaces that unfold over time. To me, reflection captures the surroundings and changes depending on one’s movement in present time. Light and material surfaces create depth, allowing oneself to navigate in the space through perceptual experiences.

In my work I observed puddles disappearing and reappearing, changing how people move through the space. Time can also be measured as the puddles fill up and dry out, evolving gradually over time and over the seasons. I use reflective surfaces as found in a puddle to create layers of experience, revealing subtle changes in everyday environments and within ourselves.

I have implemented the reflection phenomenon in two testbeds: the everyday context of the tunnel at Telefonplan, and Konstfack’s controlled environment that hosts the exhibition, allowing reflections to manifest distinctly.
