Changes in the way we engage with our surroundings are fundamental to overcoming social and environmental crisis. Community is central to this change and forms an essential part of a socially and environmentally sustainable future. We see ourselves as separate from our environment and from each other, when in truth we affect and depend on one another, as one complex being. Through engaging physically with place and with each other we can better connect and understand how our surroundings affect us and we affect them.
Place is a series of modular artefacts that, through social activity and physical engagement, aid in connecting to the people and places that form a community. To be owned, built, and re-built by community members on community owned land, utilising vernacular and open-source values, these artefacts can be adapted to suit various activities that develop an understanding and relationship to the people and places we exist with.
