Jewellery is always part of something bigger.
Though I am not a believer, I realise I have a spiritual need. Spiritual in the sense of an increased sense of reality, a perspective that makes the surrounding world relevant, feeling a sense of belonging and trust in the unknown that surrounds me.
In my degree project, I formulate an atheistic spirituality as the revelation that everything is connected by being part of the same energy that we see and experience as matter. Through craft’s closeness to material, I have chosen to illustrate this as an altar where material is central. It offers an opportunity to sit down and contemplate on the circulating existence we are all part of. To enable further participation, parts of the installation are made wearable as jewellery.
