Elin Svanelind
Elin Svanelind (b. 1997) is a Stockholm-based artist raised in Säffle, Värmland. Her work takes its point of departure in experiences in which she examines lesbian relationships, complex emotional expressions, the female body and society.
In recent years, I have examined the body’s dissolution of boundaries and possibilities for new expressions through painting and sculpture. I see the body as an opportunity to push boundaries. I investigate what happens with the female body when it exceeds its predetermined gender. What happens when powerful female bodies act based on space-claiming, aggressiveness and pleasure? My interest in the body comes from a striving to expose and dissolve categorisations and norms. From this, I strive for a counterweight to the heteronormative male-dominated world by highlighting other narratives. By broadening my personal experiences and interaction with the surrounding world, I try to say something about the present. It is a type of thought experiment in which the creative process acts as a catalyst to understand a subject in a new way.
