On the roof of the red-tiled building, large capital letters are beaming with light to tell us where we are “AXELSBERG CENTRUM”, one of the many suburban centres built along Stockholm’s metro line during the Million Programme era. The centre consists of a square submerged between two low-rise buildings and the elevated Selmedalsvägen. These structures create natural viewpoints from which one can observe the different paces of everyday life in the square from above. People either pass by purposefully or pause briefly, but there is nothing that invites them to linger there for an extended period of time.

I explore what the centre can become by rediscovering its past on the one hand, and by looking at contemporary needs for shared outdoor spaces on the other.

Using the existing characteristics of the centre and its square as a starting point, I make interventions that can enhance and create life there.
