The starting point for my degree project is the connection between the wordless communication of dementia care and tapestry weaving. In the project, I have explored how weaving can create a more creative environment when caring for elders with dementia. The research was done in collaboration with a nursing home in Stockholm, where I previously worked as a care assistant. During the process, the project changed from researching the therapeutic aspect of craft to caring through craft socially. The exhibited work is an interpretation of interactions at the nursing home. My research concludes that weaving at the nursing home was beneficial for the residents I met. My conclusion is also that a more creative environment within dementia care can strengthen staff and relatives, affecting the residents in a positive way. From my own personal perspective, the project has pushed and allowed me to value the moment and through that experience spiritual growth.
