I am standing on new ground, coming from a place some call the South.
I’m here now, keeping track of the few minutes left before the train arrives, finding some delight in my own alienation. The transportation system actually works and there’s a quietness, a fantastic seriousness to it. Curious eyes often run all over one’s otherly body very discreetly, when discreet. Curious eyes sometimes stop running and stop blinking. They get distracted in one feature of mine; they focus. Face, hands, knuckles. It’s a bit difficult to understand what it is that they’re looking for. Should I stare back, I wonder. Should I meet the eyes? So, I’ve decided I’d rather watch this uncomfortable mass of moving people exploding around me. How they look, how they move. It seems more fun to me.
This is an action called Fitting In. I will share some tips to make it possible again.
