Ronja Joensuu

My degree project is about our love/hate relationship with lawns: a study of my fascination with the importance of the lawn and its iron-hold grip on us. A grip that has created mania, conflicts and obsession.
I am fascinated by how quickly rumours start when someone stops caring about their lawn, and the envy when someone rolls out a brand-new lawn in their garden. The battle against weeds, the manic mowing, the coexistence with dandelions, the bare patches: the great variation of the artificial plant communities that capture my interest. My work is about the lawn, which has assumed an integral place in the middle-class heart.
