In Heat
For centuries, the fireplace was the integral part of a home and usually its central and most important feature. How could objects that once brought us together around warmth continue to evolve? How then would we have recognised heat?
My degree project explores a parallel reality where heat is not hidden in complex systems, where we warm people locally instead of wasting energy heating empty spaces where we are not always present. Using methods used in speculative design, I try to challenge the contemporary norm of heating air in a superfluous way. By examining properties from artefacts that once provided us with warmth, my work explores the ancient human relationship to warmth.
