Amalie Götz
I get a grid of images on the screen; small objects photographed up close, alone or neatly arranged in thoughtful compositions. They are either flat from poor light or have a bright reflection from a strong flash. The backgrounds contain very little information — a draped piece of fabric, a glimpse of a wooden floor, flowery wallpaper, the texture of a rug or towel, a plain white surface, a ruler or a coin for scale, or the shadow of a hand holding a phone to take a picture.
Amalie Götz works with various media such as drawing, video, text, printed matter as well as textile. Using found material and the acts of copying and translation, she is interested in distribution, the circulation of text and images and exchanges within different systems of value.
